Rules & tips for French Riviera

What you should know before your trip – based on official sources, as of October 2026.

Anchoring bans for large yachts

To protect Posidonia seagrass, the Mediterranean maritime prefect has banned anchoring for vessels from about 20–24 m in certain coastal zones (down to about 35–40 m depth). Authorised anchoring zones are shown on SHOM charts (data.shom.fr).

Tip for smaller boats

Even though the ban mainly targets large yachts: seagrass meadows appear as dark patches on the seabed – prefer anchoring on light sand and use existing buoys.
